As the world begins to open up once again, so too does Scotland’s tourism sector – a sector that supports over 200,000 jobs and is worth over £4bn per annum to the Scottish economy.
In our fourth episode, CMS Scotland’s Kathryn Nolin and Roland Smyth are joined by Vicki Miller (Director of Marketing & Digital, VisitScotland), Marcus Pickering (Co-founder of Pickering’s Gin) and Tricia Fox (CEO of the PR and marketing firm, Cunningly Good Group).
They examine how Scotland’s tourism sector can continue to rebound in 2022 and beyond, discussing the role that domestic and international tourism will play in the sector’s continued recovery, as well as support the sector needs going forward. They also discuss opportunities for innovation and hear how Pickering’s Gin is using “experiential tourism” to build its brand.

Wednesday Dec 02, 2020
2020 saw a slowing of daily life and more opportunity for reflection – on how things have been and how they should be going forward. Many are joining a chorus of change to advocate that, even when Covid-19 is but part of our history, life cannot go back to the way it was before. A brewing consequence of this may be increased scrutiny of businesses, the senior individuals who lead them, and the choices they make.
In our second episode, CMS Scotland’s Roland Smyth and Emma Boffey are joined by Ben Trust to discuss what this is likely to mean for hospitality and tourism businesses in Scotland.
And David Kemp from Gleneagles tells us about the hotel’s highs and lows of 2020, how those sit within its 96 year history, and the steps it’s taken to give back to the community.

They say that absence makes the heart grow fonder: a perhaps unexpected outcome of the C-19 pandemic has seen more of us holiday in Scotland, soaking up some of the beautiful surroundings and local experiences our country has to offer. As the Scottish tourism sector begins to recover from the impact of C-19, what are the challenges and opportunities for the sector as it adapts, remodels and rebounds?
In our first episode, CMS Scotland’s Emma Boffey and Roland Smyth are joined by Vicki Miller (Director of Marketing & Digital, VisitScotland), Neil Robertson (author of the Travels With A Kilt Blog) and CMS Croatia’s Gregor Famira.
They examine how Scotland’s tourism sector can recover, while addressing pressing concerns about over-tourism and sustainability. As the rise of virtual and digital tourism also gathers pace, they also hear how one country, with a similar population size to Scotland – Croatia – has successfully managed the economic expansion of its tourism sector.
